Rose Hill of Alexandria supports resident
in Marine Corps AIDS Marathon
Rose Hill of Alexandria is happy to announce our support for one of our residents, John Landis, as he
prepares to run in the Marine Corps Marathon. As an enrollee in the AIDS Marathon program (participant
#DC-1578), John is helping to raise money to benefit treatment programs at the Whitman Walker Clinic
in Washington, DC. He is also in the midst of a 5-month training program for the 26.2 mile race, which
is on October 28th.
John (34, from Sunbury, Pennsylvania) is in his 3rd year as a librarian at Edison High School, and his
3rd year at Rose Hill Apartments. John is very involved at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of
Fairfax, where he has been a senior high youth advisor for 5 years. He has done refurbishing and
construction work in DC schools, an Indian reservation, Affordable Housing in DC, and a clinic in a
Romanian village--among other social justice-related activities.
John started running a year ago for better health: he sees the marathon as a way to take his running to a
higher level, and to help those with AIDS. A friend of his died from the disease several years ago.
We are pleased to support John in this worthy and challenging endeavor. If you would also like to
support the cause with a tax-deductable contribution, please contact the AIDS Marathon Program at
